Details on, Valentino

A whisper of a glove, encrusted with crystals - perhaps unpractical but oh so, stunning!

Perfect time for a holiday...Paris

There is always a blur of boundaries were creative enterprises meet - fashion, art, interiors, photography, etc, etc, and I always appreciate the perspective of creatives as they mould their focus from one discipline to the next.

Viewing these 3 apartments, housed in a traditional 17th century building in the Marais district in Paris brought to life by the modern aesthetic of Azzedine Alaia, its interesting to get a glimpse into his interior minds-eye.  Interesting because its something different to what I'd imagine; I would think there would be more seduction, more tacticity, more organic shapes; but instead I find a minimal, modern midcentury slant.  But wait, on close inspection I discover the seduction of the furnishings by Prouve, Newson, Jacobsen, the tacticity of the leather sofas and the organic free flowing space around each object.

After all, as in quintessential Alaia fashion, less is always more!

And how cool is this place - as for the personal touch, breakfast is served from Alaia's private kitchen by his personal chef as his headquarters are next door! Merci Monsiour Alaia.

Home Style, Historic & Modern in Piraeus

In a previous life this fabulous 310sqm neoclassical home in Piraeus, Greece was originally built for a French councilor in the 19th century, updated in 1930's and then recently again to include a penthouse bedroom and a green rooftop area. The original staircase remains and original details brought back to life.  Visually soothing with white walls and simple statements, and a scattering of modern colour and shapes.  Something different to the typical blue and white  or rustic flavours prevalent in most greek homes.

At home in any modern city - Love it!

Unexpected in the Mix

A cute home in Queensland; renovated, refurbished, styled and lived in by stylist Kara Rosenlund.  Seriously gorgeous and unexpected mixes - traditional with marble top (the artwork in the kitchen); rustic with crisp (the xmas wreath hanging on the cupboard door and the stack of linen); and instruments on display ...I love it all!

Hmmm, we have an old french horn somewhere...

Tom Ford , Spring 2012

No photographers, no twittering, no mobile pictures... this range of Spring 2012 pieces were shown to a small gathering of press and buyers in semi private in London.  Tom Ford imposed this ban so that, by his thinking, no-one will be bored by the overexposed pics from runway reviews before the range hits the stores.  He's going back to old-fashioned way of doing things, (I like that).

Classic clothes are his aim - things that will stay in your wardrobe for a while.  The first thing I thought of was a very YSL look - and he agrees, because if you recall when he finished up designing for women last time around he was at YSL.

The first dress, sheer, flouncy, flirty; the white pantsuit in the third pic, bold, sexy and masculine at the same time - quintessential YSL,... and now maybe, foundations for a quintessential Tom Ford style.?

Would you, Could you?

A few weeks ago I was reading a post about grey hair on Garance Dore's blog...and here - having discovered a few grey hairs Garance was wondering whether to dye or not.  There were alot of comments thats for sure.  So it led me to think, would I, could I, leave my hair au naturel?  hmmm... what do you think?

Kristen McMenamy looks fabulous with her long grey mane and she's still modelling, see here - Mine isn't as fabulous or as grey as Kristen McMenamy's below, but I'm thinking ahead... Would this be do-able for you?

And come to think of it.... why is George Clooney still so Hot in all his naturalness (see earlier post), when grey hair on women is not!  No fair.

Non Ageist Style

One thing we have in common is growing older.  Its inevitable and I look forward to it (given the other option!)...But I do so love to see pictures of ladies that have 'aged' with style.  Stunning in their youth, now over 40 and still looking superb with 'effortless' style, a great haircut, and makeup to suit.  Some inspiration for all of us I think.

Although we can't all look like Claudia or Christy, it's finding a niche, our look, our essence and sticking to it I think, (just updated along the way).

As Carine says in W magazines' The Client " when she's trying on a range of clothing - "...its not me"... she's knows that although the blazer is gorgeous, it's just not suited to her.   It's that knowledge and intuition that we can now tap into, with 'age'.  (I found the link via Ada's fabulous blog! - thanks Ada.)

Girl Panic- Duran Duran and the Supermodels

This is just about taken me back a few years - watching the new video for Duran Duran's 'Girl Panic'.  Shot at the Savoy in London, the video captures the glamourous life, glitz, red lips, stillettos, Dolce e Gabbana, champagne and rock n roll; it's a tongue in cheek view of the band's life on the road.

Whilst original bandmembers play reporters, porters, waiters, photographers the 'veteran supers' play the bandmembers - Naomi Campbell as Simon, Eva Herzigova as Nick Rhodes, Helena Christensen as Roger Taylor, Yasmin Le Bon as John Taylor and Cindy Crawford as Andy Taylor.   Can you believe the combined age of these gorgeous ladies is 214!  (Okay, so there's a reason why they were called 'supermodels'!)

Check out the video below - for your dose of Monday glitz n glamour.

And 22 years since Vogue featured the original 'supers' on the January 1990 cover (my copy is in storage)... Harpers Bazaar have gathered the 'supers' in the Girl Panic video for their December 2011 issue.  Wow, is Yasmin LeBon really 47 years old - Go girls!!  Am looking out for my copy in the mail.

I have a thing for....intricate wallpaper

Claire Coles has got the beautiful wall covered - that is to say, with a selection of silks, leather, vintage wallpapers, Claire layers and embroiders fragments to create beautiful intricate images.   Presented in box frames they are the perfect gift for any room.

But wait, Claire also makes these artworks onto 'rolls' of wallpaper.  Having worked on interiors for both residential and commerical clients (Ted Baker, Liberty, Selfridges), and designs for big names such as Missoni, Anthropologie and Penguin, Claire also makes stunning wedding cards/invitations.

Couture, artisan, bespoke, designer, precious whatever you call them, I call these magic!

Check out more stunning works on Claire's website.

Perfect time for a holiday...Portugal

Taking six years to refurbish, Palacio Belmonte is the oldest palacio in Lisbon and was in the same family for 500 years (Earls of Belmonte)!  A hidden gem layered with history dating back to Roman times;  beautiful frescoes, original azulejos tiles, archives and letters from queens and kings of Portugal all discovered while refurbishing  this 11 'suite' accommodation.  One room uses the staircase of a Moorish tower.

Some rooms have terraces with views over the city to the river, many have views over the hotel's pool, many enjoy the sunrise and sunsets over the old quarter or Lisbon.  The Suites range in size from 30sqm to 162 sqm - and are named after Portugese notables (a writer, artist, philospher, traveller,  inventor or ecologist).

Have a drink in the cafe, relax by the pool, take a soak in your marble bathroom or sit outside on your patio and enjoy the sunshine, all the time knowing that you're breathing in a little bit of history and a distinct fusion of cultures.  A little piece of olde world magic where 'east meets west'.

Christian Louboutin loves the Palacio Belmonte for its “view from the terraces,
and the frescos"...
